Cromer Norfolk: Located on the northern coastline of Norfolk county in East of England, the coastal resort and civil parish of Cromer has been a favorite vacation hotspot since the 1800s. Also known as a fishing town, Cromer is known for its crabs and lobsters, which have been a significant source of income for the local fishermen since early days.

Cromer nowadays has a populace of just under eight thousand inhabitants and its slogan is "Gem of the Norfolk Coast".

The Gangway, Cromer - - 301863Cromer Historical Past: It is weird that the name "Cromer" wasn't registered in the 1086 Domesday Book, even if it is not disputed that there were Anglo Saxon encampments in the area, it is most likely that the settlement identified as Shipden-Juxta-Felbrigg was what eventually became Cromer, given it was situated where the Saint Peter and Saint Paul parish church now stands. An additional settlement documented in the Domesday Book (1086) as Shipden-Juxta-Mere, has for centuries been totally under the sea, around 400m to the northeast of Cromer's pier.

Cromer itself originally was positioned some way from the coast, but the town of Shipden which was formerly the coastal town, was over time demolished by the rough seas during the Middle Ages and subsequently Cromer took its place.

The town has survived financially across the years mainly through the talent of its fishing fleet, an industry that flourished up to the 60's when stocks of fish dropped. As well as lobster and the celebrated Cromer Crab, the fishing fleet were engaged in long-lining for cod and drifting for herring.

The commonly severe sea conditions off the shoreline of Norfolk, resulted in the Cromer Lifeboat Station being established in the early 1800s, the lifeboats were most often crewed by local fishermen. During the 1920's, a lifeboat station was put up at the end of Cromer Pier, making it possible for lifeboats powered by motor to take over from previously man-powered boats.

The tourist industry started out in the town in the early 19th century, and the town was famed for its pure air and healthy bathing conditions. The Hotel de Paris was first constructed in 1820 as a beachside home for Lord Suffield, it was later redesigned as a hotel in eighteen thirty by Pierre le Francois.

The train arrived at the town in eighteen seventy seven, drawing increasing numbers of travellers to the area and firmly establishing it as a holiday hotspot. An alternate train station to the East Midlands opened roughly 10 years after this.

The Saint Peter and St Paul parish church has its origin in the 14th C, but was reconstructed in the 19th century and now boasts the tallest church tower in Norfolk (at 160 foot).
