Besides the famous Cromer Crab and the lobsters, the town's fishermen had been kept busy drifting for herring and long-lining for cod.

The normally hazardous sea conditions off Norfolk's shoreline, resulted in the Cromer Lifeboat Station being established in 1804, the lifeboats were almost entirely crewed by the local fishermen. During the nineteen twenties, a lifeboat station was put up on Cromer Pier, which permitted motor powered lifeboats to take over from rowed boats.

Tourism commenced in the town in the first half of the 1800s, and the town was famed for the pure air and healthy sea bathing conditions. The Hotel de Paris was first constructed in eighteen twenty as a seaside residence for Lord Suffield, it was adapted into a hotel in eighteen thirty by Pierre le Francois.

The train arrived at Cromer in eighteen seventy seven, delivering more and more people to the area and establishing it as a holiday hotspot. A 2nd station linking it to the East Midlands opened around 10 years after this.
